colors may not be displayed correctly. Monochrome displays are not supported.
Installing Homepage Builder
- If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows NT, log in to the system as an
administrator.
- If you choose Typical as the setup type, all the files are installed.
- To add components later, start the installation program again, click Modify, add check marks to the components you want to add, and then click the
Next button.
Uninstalling Homepage Builder
- In the Windows Control Panel, select Add/Remove Programs.
- From the list that appears, select IBM WebSphere Studio Homepage Builder V6.0. Then click Add/Remove or Change/Remove.
- Select Remove, and then click the Next button.
If, after uninstallation, any files remain in the installation folder,
delete them, too.
Reading the online user's guides
- To view the online version of a user's guide, you must have Adobe Acrobat
Reader installed. If you do not have it on your computer, install it by
opening the acrobat folder in the installation CD of Homepage Builder, and then running ar405eng.exe.
Reading the online help
- To view the online help, you need Internet Explorer 3.02 or later.
Migrating from an earlier version
- If you have ever installed and used TopPage or Homepage Builder Version 5.0, the Migration of Settings dialog appears when you start Homepage Builder Version 6. If you select the check box for Do not show this dialog again and then click the OK button, the Migration of Settings dialog does not appear at the next startup. To display this dialog again, run the bin\hpbmig.exe file in the folder in which Homepage Builder has been installed.
Homepage Builder (main program)
- To use the Preview tab, you need Internet Explorer 4.0, 5.0, or 5.5 installed on your computer.
- If you insert into your page a file that cannot be referred to from that
page, the file is copied into the correct folder when you save the page.
Until then, the URL of that file is represented by an absolute path ("file:///...")
in the HTML source of the page or in the Attributes dialog. For example,
if you insert an image file named abc.gif, an <IMG> tag is inserted
whose src attribute has the value "file:///C:/image/abc.gif". When you
save the page, however, the URL of the image file is converted to a relative
path, which is implied by the directory in which the page has been saved.
For example, "file:///C:/image/abc.gif" is changed to "abc.gif",
if the image is saved in the same folder as the HTML file.
Therefore, when you have inserted an image into a page, do not change the
URL of the image before you save the page (you can change the URL manually
in the HTML source or the Attributes dialog); if you change it, the image
will not be copied correctly when you save the page. This note applies
not only to image files but to any files to be inserted into a page.
- To edit a file on a network computer, assign a network drive before you
edit it.
- Server computers generally distinguish between lowercase and uppercase
letters. Therefore, a URL whose case is specified incorrectly is marked
as a link error in the Link view of the Site tab.
- If you specify i-mode or WorkPad for the target browser, the appearance of your page on the Edit Page tab or the Preview tab may not be the same as on the actual browser. This is because these
tabs use Internet Explorer to display the page. It is therefore recommended
that you always check your page on the actual browser.
- If you are using Windows Me, a message, "The file 'MSPQM.sys' was not found." may appear when you first reboot your system after you have installed Homepage Builder. You can click Cancel; the file is already installed on the system.
- If you frequently encounter a system error while closing Homepage Builder,
you may be able to avoid it by the following procedure:
- Open the Options dialog.
- Go to the Others tab.
- Clear the check box for Show icons on the menu.
WebArt Designer
- Unless the color palette of your display has more than 256 colors, colors
may not be displayed correctly. Use a display that supports High Color
(16 bits) or more.
- The fonts you can use for a logo are different on different computers.
If the font used by a sample logo in the Template Gallery is not installed
on your computer, the appearance of the logo, after it is pasted on the
Canvas, may be different from the sample.
- A logo with vertical text may not be displayed correctly on an earlier
version of Homepage Builder or WebArt Designer.
- Windows 2000 does not support the direct input of vertical text on the
Canvas. Text intended to be vertical does not look as intended when you
type it. As soon as you enter it, however, it takes the form of a vertical
logo. You can avoid this inconvenience by using the Logo Wizard to insert
vertical text.
- If you paste a logo created with a WebArt Designer program provided by
an earlier version of Homepage Builder, the text may expand horizontally.
This happens when there is space after the logo text. To correct it, adjust
the size of the object after you paste it on the Canvas.
WebVideo Studio
- If you are using Windows Me, and if, during the installation of device drivers for video capture, you are asked whether you want to keep the existing driver because it is the latest, click the Yes button to follow the recommendation in the panel.
Tutorial
- You can set the sound volume of the narration and BGM to the maximum with
the PageUp key, or to the minimum with the PageDown key.
Sample materials
- To view a list of sample materials, go to the Windows Start menu, and click Programs --> IBM WebSphere Studio Homepage Builder V6.0 --> Documents
--> Sample Materials.
- The Homepage Builder CD1 contains sample images from earlier versions.
See the images folder.
- Homepage Builder offers sample materials such as image files and video
files. You are free to use these materials in creating your Web pages,
and to upload and distribute completed pages containing the materials,
provided that you observe the conditions stated in the Homepage Builder License Information. However, you cannot distribute or upload the sample materials themselves.
- For an explanation of each sample Java applet, see the sample\java\index.htm
file in the folder in which Homepage Builder has been installed.
- To be able to preview an applet on the Preview tab, you must have the files specified by the param parameters in a folder under the folder that contains the class file for
the Java applet. Suppose you have selected a sample Java applet from the
Gallery tab of the Site/Gallery View and inserted it into a page. If you cannot view the applet on the Preview tab, save the page first; the applet files are then copied to the correct
folder, and you will be able to view the applet.
Browser-related restrictions
- Web pages created by use of one of the following functions are supported
only by certain types of browser, as follows.
Function |
Restriction |
HTML4.0 tags |
Only Internet Explorer 4.0 or later and Netscape Navigator 4.0 or later
support the HTML 4.0 tags. |
Style sheets (CSS) |
Only Internet Explorer 4.0 or later and Netscape Navigator 4.0 or later
support the CSS. The actual display image depends on the CSS support level
of Web browser. |
Style sheets (absolute position, background image) |
Even on Netscape Navigator 4.0 or later, if you reload a page after changing
the size of the browser window, the background image specified by a style
sheet, or the text or images on other pages, are not displayed at all. |
Layout frame |
Only Internet Explorer 4.0 or later and Netscape Navigator 4.0 or later
support the layout frame. |
Dynamic HTML, which is created by applying an effect to a layout frame |
Only Internet Explorer 4.0 or later and Netscape Navigator 4.0 or later
support the effects for the layout frame.
The Macintosh version of Internet Explorer 4.0 does not support the following effects:
|
Rollover image, checkerboard image, and slide show |
Only Internet Explorer 4.0 or later and Netscape Navigator 4.0 or later
support the the rollover image, checkerboard image, and slide show. |
Event defined for a tag |
See "Restrictions for using events with Netscape Navigator" in
the online help. |
PNG |
Netscape Navigator 4.04 or later or Internet Explorer 4.0 or later can
display PNG images; however, transparency information and so on applied
to images is not always displayed properly. |
Free layout mode |
Netscape Navigator 3.x or earlier or Internet Explorer 3.x or earlier cannot
correctly display pages created in free layout mode. The page elements
are displayed in a vertical line, in the order in which they were inserted
on the page.
With Netscape Navigator 4.0 or later, elements in a group that is included
in a larger group may not be displayed properly. With Internet Explorer
4.x or earlier, the background of each page element, specified as an attribute
of the associated layout frame, may not be displayed properly. |
